Why Atm ?
ATMs: the ultimate profit machines
Australians love cash. Despite the prevalence of EFTPOS/Debit cards and credit cards, around 70% of over-the-counter transactions in Australia are still made using cash. And most of that cash comes out of ATMs.
The first ATM was installed in Australia in 1977. There are now over 27,000 of them around the country: almost three times as many as there are bank branches. The amount of money withdrawn from those machines totals over $13 billion every month!
This strong connection between the Australian shopper and the ATM means that convenience is everything. The availability of an ATM at any location will draw traffic to that location: research suggests as much as a 30% increase.
The availability of an in-store ATM can be a powerful reason for customers to choose to enter that store over another. And it will keep them coming back: many people feel safer using an in-store ATM than a machine on the street.
Recent changes to financial regulations in Australia have made the installation of an ATM easier and improved the financial returns available. As a result, ATMs are increasingly being installed in busy retail outlets.
There has never been a better time to get in on the act!
